Hotel Particulier is pleased to present the works of visual artists Cesar Love Alexandre and fashion designer Shizhe He.

THE GRADUATE is a collaboration among artists who share mutual interests in the relationship between the wearer and the clothes through fashion tailoring, performance and moving image works.

Cesar Love Alexandre created eight short films, translating Shizhe He’s incredible poetry and tailoring through a series of choreographed individuals moving seamlessly into the pieces. Each short is accompanied by a sound piece from the wearer narrating his relationship to the classics of menswear.

The collection featured is Shitzhe He’s graduate collection from MFA Parsons The New School _ a collection with noticeable signatures though her remarkable pattern-cutting skills, creating series of trompe l’oeil wherein the pieces melt and flow into themselves, with seamless collars and layers.

Graduate collections are seldom translated directly on the retail floor, and some are highly regarded as the gold mine of promising young fashion designers and acquired by collectors _ a collection made off the commercial grid and containing layers of intelligence that will be explored within the time and cost challenging equation of the Fashion industry.

The exhibit is shown in two chapters:
_ The first iteration takes place at the Bowery Grand Hotel, New York on October 25th 2018; this chapter presents the series of short films through an endurance based performance where Cesar Love Alexandre a.k.a @young_emperors will be welcoming guests to the screening in their hotel room.
_ The second chapter, at Rare Market in Seoul in early February 2019, shows the collection within a conceptual dressing room installation where customers will be able to try looks from the graduate collection. There will be an entrance agreement to the dressing room _ presented to the patron with a choice of fees willing to pay for the acquisition of an ephemeral materiality.

While moving into a non-tangible economy with new conventions and values, the exhibition challenges the way in which fashion is experienced, what it means to be a consumer _ a collector of primary experience, an investor into intangible assets to sustain a network society of intelligence, ideas and creative practices.

A series of 8 shirt editions will be also released in exclusivity at Rare Market _ ahead of Shizhe He’s first collection AW2019.

SHIZHE HE’s basic design philosophy is to approach the balance of art and reality through a tenacious process of research and experimentation. Shizhe is interested about the relationship between clothes and the wearer. Wearer give the clothes the Movement. Clothes can also bring social meaning and identity to the wearer. The room between the garment and the body for Shizhe is Hidden with great fun.

One of Shizhe He's technique is rooted in pattern cutting where Shizhe explore the smallest details and moments she claims are ignored. She observes the most obvious and accustomed things we take for granted and therefore pass over. It is in this space Shizhe delves and disrupts reproducing these quiet details and moments through cutting and fabric manipulation. Subtle and steady, Shizhe reexamines the relationship between clothes and the wearer; the wearer and the clothes. Shizhe believes that alternative ways of cutting create infinite possibilities. She aims to bring a craftsman's wisdom and discipline to her practice and as a designer achieve a balance of art and function through her garments.

Shizhe He is a Chinese fashion designer based in Beijing, China. Shizhe started studying fine art at the age of 10 and went on to major in Fashion Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and the acclaimed Bunka Fashion school in Japan where she developed her pattern cutting skills. She graduated in 2017 with a MFA in Fashion Design and Society at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City, worked at Thom Browne following graduation and is now working on her next collection AW19 in Beijing _ Shirts, Suits and Workwear are her focus. Her work has been featured in the likes of i-D Magazine, W and WWD and is part of Wavelengh:Reset art exhibit in Shanghai 2018.
